A recent telephone survey showed that more than 1.6 million Australians planned to drop their private hospital coverage with the changes to health insurance that have been proposed.
To find these results, the research company ANOP and their consultant company Deloitte asked heath insurance members about the government’s plan to means test a 30% rebate. “You are looking at very significant percentages that are going to drop or downgrade for hospital and even bigger numbers in terms of dropping or downgrading their extras cover”, said Rod Cameron, chairman of ANOP.
According to Michael Armitage, Chief Executive of Australian Health Insurance Association, the government has underestimated the impact of their new policy.
